The Committee on Culture, Education and media

Emil Stoyanov calls for simplification of the accreditation process of journalists in Brussels

The Committee on Culture, Education and Media will vote on the draft report of Committee's  vice-chair Morten Løkkegaard "Journalism and new media" on June 23.

Emil Stoyanov noted "The lack of information on the EU in the mass media of the Member States is a widely acknowledged fact, thus, I have tabled some suggestions for amendments, which aim to stimulate both public and private media to cover more broadly European topics". According to the member of the European Parliament, measures facilitating the procedure of accreditation of journalists in Brussels should be taken.

The draft report draws the attention on how communication can initiate and promote the European debate and the flow of information to the citizens. This could be achieved through more discussions on European matters in national media and through the emergence of a European public sphere.

During a meeting on Thursday, June 24, of the Committee on Culture, Education and Media a public hearing on "The Internet: An educational tool for cross-cultural understanding within the EU" will take place. It will examine the new media technologies, as excellent tools for transmitting educational content and promoting cultural knowledge and intercultural understanding. Experts from Germany, France, Belgium and the United States will present their views on the role of the internet in promoting the acceptance and appreciation of cultural diversity.
